The Eastern Caribbean Amalgamated Bank (ECAB) has launched the ECAB Game Changers Scholarship, aimed at supporting promising young athletes as they pursue academic and sporting excellence abroad. According to Antigua News Room, the scholarship was officially unveiled on Monday, July 20th, 2026, at ECAB's Redcliffe Street location, in the presence of government officials and members of the sporting community.
The scholarship provides a one-time payment of EC $25,000 to athletes between the ages of 14 and 21 who have secured partial scholarships to study abroad and demonstrate excellence in swimming, track and field, or football. One recipient will be selected each year.
ECAB Chief Executive Officer Michael Spencer described the initiative as more than a financial gesture. "It is about rewarding perseverance, encouraging leadership, and supporting individuals who will proudly represent their communities and their country on the regional and international stage," he said.
Minister of Sports and Creative Industries, the Honourable Dwayne George, commended ECAB for its continued investment in community development. "You have consistently proven to be a cut above the rest. Your support in education, community development, and culture has not gone unnoticed. Again, we applaud your continued efforts as good corporate citizens," the Minister stated.
Sports Commissioner Dr. Colin Greene also praised the scholarship, stressing its potential to help athletes build sustainable careers beyond their sporting lives. "Education is every student's greatest advantage. Talent gets you noticed, but education gets you opportunities," he said.
