The Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority has welcomed LIAT's inaugural direct service between Pointe-à-Pitre, Guadeloupe, and Montego Bay, Jamaica, calling it a significant step forward for regional tourism and inter-island connectivity.
According to Antigua News Room, Shermain Jeremy, the Authority's Director of Caribbean and Latin America, spoke at the inaugural celebrations and framed the new route as a benefit to the entire Caribbean region, not any single destination.
"This route is not Guadeloupe's gain or Jamaica's gain — it is the region's gain," Jeremy said.
Jeremy noted that the service positions Guadeloupe as a gateway for multi-destination travel, making it easier for visitors to explore destinations across the region — including Antigua and Barbuda.
She also pointed to a broader shift in how Caribbean nations should approach tourism development, emphasising collaboration over competition.
"That is the future of Caribbean tourism: not competing for the same visitor, but sharing them," Jeremy said.
The Tourism Authority extended congratulations to LIAT and its partners for expanding regional air connectivity and improving access to Caribbean destinations.
