Three Antigua and Barbuda athletes have advanced to finals at the NACAC Athletics Championships in Tlaxcala, Mexico, with Geolyna Dowdye, Dwayne Fleming and Tyra Fenton all making their mark in the opening rounds of competition, according to Antigua News Room.

Dowdye delivered a standout performance in the women's Under-23 100 metres, winning her semifinal in 11.54 seconds to secure a spot in the final. She went on to finish fourth in the final with a time of 11.27 seconds.

In the men's Under-23 100 metres, Fleming advanced to the final after clocking 10.40 seconds to finish third in his heat. Fellow Antiguan Kasiya Daley ran 10.62 seconds in Heat 1 but did not progress to the next round.

Fleming's final bid for a medal was cut short after he experienced physical discomfort midway through the race while leading at the 40-metre mark, the Antigua and Barbuda Athletics Association confirmed. The injury affected his ability to challenge for a podium finish.

Tyra Fenton booked her place in the girls' Under-18 400 metres final after finishing third in Heat 1 with a time of 56.27 seconds. That final is scheduled for Saturday. Kettia Ambrose, meanwhile, finished fifth in Heat 2 of the women's Under-23 400 metres in 55.69 seconds and did not advance.

Competition continues with Fenton set to contest the 400-metre final, while Dowdye, Fenton and Daley are all entered in the 200-metre heats. Craig Prendergast will also compete in the men's Under-23 400-metre hurdles final.

The Antigua and Barbuda Athletics Association wished Fleming a speedy recovery and extended its support to the full national team as the championships continue.
