Geolyna Dowdye delivered a championship-record performance to claim gold in the women's 200 metres on Saturday, leading Antigua and Barbuda to a five-medal haul at the 2026 OECS Athletics Championships in Basseterre, St Kitts. According to Antigua.news, the national sprinter crossed the line in 23.28 seconds, breaking the previous championships record of 23.30 set in 2017 by British Virgin Islands athlete Tahesia Harrigan-Scott.

Dowdye's gold marked Antigua and Barbuda's first of the championships and headlined a day of strong performances across both track and field disciplines.

Javelin thrower Zonique Charles also made history on the day, claiming silver with a throw of 42.92 metres. The effort not only earned Charles a podium finish but also shattered the national record, surpassing the previous Antigua and Barbuda mark of 41.11 metres set by Amanda Edwards at the 2007 CARIFTA Games in the Turks and Caicos Islands.

Earlier in the competition, Christopher Johnson opened the country's medal account with a silver-medal finish in the men's shot put, recording a best effort of 16.31 metres to secure second place.

The men's 200 metres provided a fitting close to the day, with Jalen Dyett taking silver in 20.94 seconds and teammate Kadeem Campbell finishing third in 21.11 seconds. The result handed Antigua and Barbuda two of the three available podium positions in the event.

The collective performances highlighted the breadth of Antigua and Barbuda's athletics programme, with competitors excelling across multiple disciplines against the region's top athletes. With a championship record, a new national record and five medals secured, the twin-island nation continued an encouraging run of form at the regional championships.
