Antigua and Barbuda's Geolyna Dowdye delivered a record-breaking performance on Saturday, winning gold in the women's 200 metres at the OECS Championships while setting a new championship record.

According to Antigua News Room, Dowdye crossed the finish line in 23.28 seconds, edging past the previous championship record of 23.30 seconds to claim the title.

The record she surpassed had stood for nearly eight years. Tahesia Harrigan-Scott of the British Virgin Islands had set the previous mark on July 2, 2017.

Dowdye's victory added another gold medal to Antigua and Barbuda's tally at the championships, while also cementing her place in the record books as the fastest woman ever to run the 200 metres at the OECS Championships.
