Christopher Johnson has delivered Antigua and Barbuda's first medal of the 2026 OECS Track and Field Championships, winning silver in the men's shot put with a throw of 16.31 metres.
According to Antigua News Room, the achievement came on the opening day of competition at the Kim Collins Athletics Stadium in Basseterre, St. Kitts, where athletes from across the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States are vying for honours.
Johnson is among a 16-member national team selected by the Antigua and Barbuda Athletic Association (ABAA) for the championships, which run from July 4 to 5. The squad comprises five female and 11 male athletes competing across a range of track and field disciplines, including sprints, middle-distance races, hurdles, relays, jumps, throws and javelin.
The team is led by head coach Heather Samuel-Daley, supported by assistant coaches Kesswin Anthony and Daniel Bailey.
The ABAA congratulated Johnson on his performance, recognising the silver medal as the country's first podium finish of the championships.
