The Rotary Club of Antigua (RCA) has reaffirmed its commitment to education and youth development, presenting a cheque of EC$10,000 to the University of the West Indies Five Islands Campus (UWIFIC) as part of its annual Scholarship Programme. According to Antigua News Room, the contribution forms part of the Club's ongoing partnership with the institution.
The cheque was formally handed over to Ms. Adeola Matthew, Manager of the Student Retention and Success Unit within the Office of the Campus Registrar at UWIFIC, during a presentation ceremony held at Rotary House. The funds are intended to assist deserving students in accessing higher education and reflect both organisations' shared commitment to empowering young people through academic achievement and personal development.
Speaking at the ceremony, RCA President Mrs. Elisa Graham underscored the central role education plays in the Club's mission. "The Rotary Club of Antigua is proud to continue its partnership with the University of the West Indies Five Islands Campus through this scholarship contribution. We believe that education is one of the most powerful tools for transforming lives and strengthening communities. This donation reflects our ongoing commitment to supporting students as they pursue their academic and professional aspirations," she said.
Mrs. Graham also expressed gratitude to the Club's Scholarship Committee, led by Past Presidents Dr. Vanetta Rodgers and Dr. Errol Samuel, crediting their dedication with bringing the initiative to fruition. She additionally recognised Rotarians Nabia Burton and Yasmine Ephraim for their contributions to the committee.
Ms. Matthew welcomed the Club's continued support, noting its tangible effect on student outcomes. "Partnerships like this demonstrate the power of community. The Club's continued scholarship support has had a measurable impact on student success and retention, helping to ensure that more students can complete their studies and build brighter futures," she said.
The Rotary Club of Antigua has a longstanding history of supporting educational initiatives, youth leadership programmes, and community development projects across Antigua and Barbuda. Through strategic partnerships such as its collaboration with UWIFIC, the Club works to remove financial barriers that prevent students from completing their studies.
The RCA indicated it looks forward to deepening its relationship with UWIFIC and continuing to invest in developing the nation's future leaders.
