The Rotary Club of Antigua has donated EC$10,000 to the University of the West Indies (UWI) Five Islands Campus in support of its scholarship programme, helping students overcome financial barriers to higher education. According to Antigua.news, the contribution was formally presented during a ceremony held at Rotary House.
Adeola Matthew, Manager of the Student Retention and Success Unit within the Office of the Campus Registrar, received the donation on behalf of the university.
The gift forms part of the Rotary Club's annual Scholarship Programme and reflects its continuing partnership with the UWI Five Islands Campus. Rotary Club of Antigua President Elisa Graham said the initiative underscores the organisation's dedication to education and youth development.
"The Rotary Club of Antigua is proud to continue its partnership with the University of the West Indies Five Islands Campus through this scholarship contribution. We believe that education is one of the most powerful tools for transforming lives and strengthening communities," Graham said. "This donation reflects our ongoing commitment to supporting students as they pursue their academic and professional aspirations."
Graham also acknowledged the Club's Scholarship Committee, led by Past President Dr. Vanetta Rodgers and Past President Dr. Errol Samuel, for their work in administering the programme. Committee members Nabia Burton and Yasmine Ephraim were also recognised for their contributions.
Accepting the donation, Matthew expressed gratitude for the Rotary Club's continued investment in students. "Partnerships like this demonstrate the power of community," she said. "The Club's continued scholarship support has had a measurable impact on student success and retention, helping to ensure that more students can complete their studies and build brighter futures."
The Rotary Club of Antigua has long supported educational initiatives, youth leadership programmes and community development projects across Antigua and Barbuda. Its ongoing partnership with the UWI Five Islands Campus continues to provide financial assistance to students while promoting academic achievement and leadership development.
