Jumby Bay's executive management has announced immediate action to address concerns over the improper disposal of seaweed near the Parham community, according to Antigua.news.
In an official statement, the resort's management said it discussed the matter directly with Minister of Social and Urban Transformation Rawdon Turner on Tuesday morning, shortly after the issue was brought to its attention. Following that conversation, the company directed its contractor to remove the seaweed without delay.
"The issue was brought to our attention during that conversation, and immediate steps were taken to address it. The contractor responsible has been directed to remove the seaweed without delay, and we are enhancing further oversight measures to ensure full compliance with environmental requirements going forward," the statement read.
Beyond the immediate removal, Jumby Bay said it is implementing additional oversight measures to ensure ongoing compliance with environmental standards. The company acknowledged the concerns raised by residents and reaffirmed its commitment to environmental responsibility and community relations.
"We recognize the importance of preserving the beauty and wellbeing of Antigua's communities and environment, and we remain committed to earning and maintaining the trust of those we serve through responsible action and continuous improvement," the statement added.
The company's response follows public outcry over the dumping of seaweed near Parham, which prompted residents to call for its removal and demand adherence to proper environmental practices.
