Employees at Hammock Cove Resort & Spa have elected the Antigua and Barbuda Workers' Union (ABWU) as their legally recognised bargaining agent, marking a significant milestone for the resort's workforce.

According to Antigua News Room, workers held their first official staff meeting with ABWU President and Senior Industrial Relations Officer Kem Riley on Wednesday, following the union's certification.

Riley confirmed that the company has agreed to adopt all existing arrangements outlined in the collective bargaining agreement covering Elite Island Resorts, of which Hammock Cove is a subsidiary. During the meeting, employees were briefed on several key provisions they will be entitled to under the agreement.

Among the highlights is a wage increase of $0.50 on the hourly rate, effective 1 July 2026. The collective agreement will also formalise the employer's compliance with public holiday pay entitlements, guaranteeing workers either a day's pay or a lieu day when scheduled off on a public holiday.

Riley further encouraged employees to enrol in the ABHTA/ABWU Comprehensive Health Insurance Plan, noting that the scheme offers affordable healthcare coverage for both workers and their families.

The ABWU president reassured the workforce that the union remains committed to securing a fair collective agreement — one that improves working conditions and enhances the overall well-being of all employees at the resort.
