Anticipation is building across Antigua and Barbuda as organisers put the finishing touches on preparations for Antigua Carnival 2026, now just one month away. According to Antigua.news, the festival runs from July 25 to August 4 under the theme "Feel the Rhythm," promising eleven days of music, culture, pageantry and entertainment.
The celebration will once again transform St. John's and communities across the island into a hub of colour and energy, with steelpan, calypso, soca and traditional masquerade taking centre stage alongside popular fetes and cultural events — reinforcing the festival's reputation as the Caribbean's Greatest Summer Festival.
Chair of the Antigua and Barbuda Festivals Commission, Ambassador Elizabeth Makhoul, said this year's carnival offers visitors far more than entertainment. "Antigua Carnival 2026 invites the world to 'Feel the Rhythm' as we host the Caribbean's Greatest Summer Festival. Visitors can immerse themselves in the heartbeat of Antigua and Barbuda through vibrant celebrations, energetic performances of steelpan, soca, calypso, mas, and authentic cultural experiences that capture the true rhythm of the Caribbean," Makhoul said.
She added that this year's festivities also mark the beginning of a countdown to a significant milestone, with Antigua Carnival set to celebrate its 70th anniversary in 2027.
Chief Marketing Officer of the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority, Charmaine Spencer, said Carnival remains one of the country's strongest tourism draws. "Coupled with our stunning beaches, a visit during Antigua Carnival presents the perfect summer getaway for travellers seeking relaxing beach days and evenings filled with the rhythm of the Carnival. It is the ideal combination of relaxation, culture and festivities," Spencer said.
This year's programme features a packed calendar, beginning with the official opening of Carnival City and T-Shirt Mas before moving through Junior Carnival, Panorama, Calypso Monarch, Party Monarch, J'ouvert and the Carnival Monday and Tuesday parades.
One of the most highly anticipated events is "Face Off: Antigua vs. Dominica" on July 24, where legendary Antiguan band Burning Flames will share the stage with Dominica's renowned bouyon powerhouse Triple K International.
Regional soca stars Patrice Roberts, Machel Montano, Voice, Skinny Fabulous and Muddy are also scheduled to perform, alongside Antigua and Barbuda's own Tian Winter and Tizzy — a lineup organisers say will sustain energy throughout the festival. Steelpan will remain a major feature as well, with Panorama showcasing the country's top orchestras in one of Carnival's most competitive events.
Organisers are encouraging travellers to secure flights and accommodations early as demand rises ahead of what is expected to be another vibrant edition. The festival culminates with the traditional Last Lap on August 4, closing another chapter of the nation's premier cultural celebration before attention turns to the landmark 70th anniversary in 2027.
