The one-month countdown to Antigua Carnival 2026 has officially begun, with organisers preparing to deliver what they describe as the Caribbean's Greatest Summer Festival.
According to Antigua.news, the festival will run from July 25 to August 4, transforming Antigua and Barbuda into an island-wide celebration over eleven days under the theme "Feel the Rhythm." Thousands of visitors and returning nationals are expected to attend the premier cultural event.
Throughout the festival, the twin-island nation will reverberate with the sounds of steelpan, calypso and soca music, alongside colourful street parades, traditional characters and a wide array of fetes and cultural experiences.
Chair of the Antigua and Barbuda Festivals Commission, Ambassador Elizabeth Makhoul, said the carnival offers the world a window into the nation's cultural soul. "Antigua Carnival is more than a festival; it's a rhythm you feel, a culture you experience and memories you carry long after the music fades," she said. Ambassador Makhoul added that this year's festivities also mark the beginning of a journey toward Carnival 70, a historic milestone set to be celebrated in 2027.
Chief Marketing Officer of the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority, Charmaine Spencer, highlighted the festival's appeal to international travellers. She noted that Antigua Carnival blends the country's rich cultural traditions, distinct cuisine and warm hospitality with its world-renowned beaches, creating what she described as the perfect summer destination for those seeking both relaxation and celebration.
The programme includes a packed schedule of events: the Opening of Carnival, T-Shirt Mas, J'ouvert, Carnival Monday and Tuesday's Parade of the Bands, and the traditional Last Lap. Music competitions will also feature prominently, with local artistes vying for the coveted Party Monarch and Calypso Monarch titles.
Among the most anticipated events is "Face Off: Antigua vs. Dominica," which will see Antigua and Barbuda's legendary Burning Flames band share the stage with Dominica's internationally acclaimed bouyon act, Triple K International.
Regional soca heavyweights Patrice Roberts, Machel Montano, Voice, Skinny Fabulous and Muddy are scheduled to headline major events, joined by Antigua and Barbuda's own soca stars Tian Winter and Tizzy. The Panorama competition will once again spotlight the country's steelpan tradition, featuring performances from some of the finest pan musicians in the region.
Organisers are encouraging travellers to secure flights and accommodations early as anticipation continues to build ahead of what promises to be an unforgettable eleven days of rhythm, culture and celebration.
