Nigerian carrier Air Peace has categorically denied any connection to online advertisements and social media campaigns allegedly encouraging pregnant women to travel to Barbados to give birth and obtain citizenship-related benefits, calling the material unauthorized and misleading.
According to Antigua News Room, the airline issued a formal statement on June 21 distancing itself from the controversial content, which had been circulating on social media and online platforms.
"Air Peace Management wishes to categorically state that the airline has no involvement whatsoever in any advertisements, social media campaigns, or online promotions encouraging pregnant women to travel to Barbados for the purpose of giving birth or obtaining citizenship benefits," the statement read.
The airline said its Barbados route has been promoted strictly as a service supporting business, tourism, trade, education, and cultural exchange between Africa and the Caribbean — not for purposes related to birth tourism.
Air Peace also moved to distance itself from an individual featured in the circulating content, stating that the person holds no role as an ambassador, employee, representative, influencer, or affiliate of the airline. The company said none of the advertisements, videos, or promotional material linked to the controversy were authorized, sponsored, or approved by its management, and that the content does not reflect its policies or marketing strategy.
The carrier further noted that, like other commercial airlines, it sells tickets through travel agencies, online booking platforms, and official sales channels. It does not have prior knowledge of passengers' personal circumstances — including pregnancy status — before standard check-in and travel documentation procedures are completed.
Air Peace said it remains committed to operating in full compliance with aviation, immigration, and destination-country regulations, and to strengthening connectivity between Africa and the Caribbean.
The airline urged the public and media to rely solely on information published through its official communication channels.
