ST. JOHN'S, Antigua, June 19, 2026 — The Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA) has launched the 13th edition of its Summer Internship Programme, welcoming 17 young professionals who will spend the next six weeks gaining hands-on experience across the utility provider's operations.

According to Antigua News Room, the programme was officially opened during a ceremony on Friday, marking the start of what APUA described as a meaningful opportunity for participants to develop practical workplace skills and deepen their understanding of the public utilities sector.

Minister responsible for Information Communication Technologies, Utilities and Energy Melford Nicholas attended the opening ceremony and congratulated the interns on their selection. He urged them to make the most of the opportunity by expanding their skills and knowledge, and by contributing fresh ideas that could support the Authority's ongoing modernization efforts.

Chief Executive Officer John Bradshaw said the programme has delivered tangible results over the years, pointing out that a number of former participants have since joined APUA's permanent workforce. Bradshaw noted that these former interns continue to make meaningful contributions to the organisation through their expertise and dedication, helping to strengthen operations and improve service delivery across Antigua and Barbuda.

While the Summer Internship Programme is now in its 13th year, APUA noted that it has been providing internship and work-experience opportunities for decades as part of its broader commitment to youth development and corporate social responsibility.

The Authority highlighted that several of its current and former managers began their professional careers as interns — a testament to the long-term value of giving young people structured exposure to the world of work.

APUA said the 17-member intake this year reflects its sustained investment in the next generation of professionals. During the six-week programme, interns will work alongside experienced staff, acquire industry knowledge and contribute to projects aligned with the Authority's mission and objectives.

The Authority expressed confidence that the latest cohort will build on the programme's strong legacy, and wished all participants a productive and rewarding experience.
