The Eastern Caribbean Amalgamated Bank (ECAB) has issued an advisory warning customers that Visa and Mastercard cards can no longer be used in Cuba, effective immediately.

According to Antigua News Room, the disruption follows a United States Executive Order issued on May 1, 2026, after which Cuba's central bank confirmed that a foreign partner previously responsible for processing credit card transactions had limited its operations in the country.

As a result, all Visa and Mastercard-branded cards — including ECAB's debit, prepaid, and credit cards — cannot be used for purchases within Cuba.

ECAB is urging customers who are planning travel to Cuba to make alternative payment arrangements ahead of their trip in order to avoid financial difficulties during their stay.

Customers seeking assistance are encouraged to contact ECAB's Customer Support and Digital Banking Unit directly at 268-480-6186.
