The Potters Playing Field redevelopment is on track for completion before Antigua and Barbuda hosts the 2026 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), with major sporting facilities expected to be finished by the end of September. According to Antigua News Room, Minister of State for Tourism and St. George MP Michael Freeland joined Antigua and Barbuda High Commissioner to the United Kingdom Karen-Mae Hill on a site visit this week to assess progress on the multi-sport complex.

Project lead Prince Charles reported that work is advancing on three hard courts designed for basketball, netball and volleyball. Each court will feature covered seating for approximately 225 spectators. Contractor Agile Courts Construction is handling the resurfacing of the courts, along with the installation of lighting, fencing and supporting infrastructure.

The complex will also incorporate a combined football and cricket field. Officials were informed that the field is expected to be grassed in August, following the completion of drainage works.

Officials on the tour were told the overall facility is scheduled for substantial completion by September 30 — well ahead of CHOGM 2026, which will bring Commonwealth heads of government to Antigua and Barbuda from November 1 to 4.

Conversations during the site visit also addressed security arrangements, pedestrian access, and proposals to convert existing Public Works buildings on the property into offices and workshop spaces.
