Electricity customers in Antigua and Barbuda will see a higher fuel variation charge on their bills this month, after the Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA) raised the rate from 70 cents to 80 cents per kilowatt-hour for June.
According to Antigua News Room, the 10-cent increase follows a steady climb from earlier in the year, with the rate held at 55 cents per kilowatt-hour in both March and April before rising to 70 cents in May.
APUA stated that the fuel variation charge reflects the international market cost of fuel used to generate electricity and is directly influenced by movements in global fuel prices.
The authority urged customers to monitor their energy consumption and adopt energy-efficient practices — both at home and in the workplace — as a means of managing the impact on their electricity bills.
The fuel variation charge is a standard component of electricity bills and fluctuates in line with the cost of fuel associated with power generation.
