The Antigua and Barbuda Basketball Association (ABBA) has named a 27-player training squad for the upcoming CBC Pre-Qualifiers in Guyana, launching the nation's bid for a place in the FIBA AmeriCup 2029 qualification process. According to Antigua.news, the tournament is scheduled for July 8–12 in Georgetown, with training set to begin Monday, June 8.
Antigua and Barbuda have been drawn in Group A alongside hosts Guyana, Dominica, Turks and Caicos Islands, and Bermuda. Group B features Barbados, Haiti, Grenada, the Cayman Islands, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The tournament will follow a round-robin format, with each team facing every other side in its group once. Only the top team from each group will advance to the next round of the Pre-Qualifiers, set for November.
The squad blends local talent with overseas-based players. Representing the domestic scene are standout performers from clubs including EZ Fit Flyers, Cuties Ovals Ojays, JSC Red Hawks, Da Project, All Saints Slam, and Lava Elite Stingerz.
Several players competing abroad have also earned selection. Preston Merrick of Harvard University, Devonte Carter of Nova Southeastern University, Xavier Spencer of Lindenwood University, and Jaden Andrew of Emory & Henley College all feature in the squad. Jabari Williams, who currently plays professionally in Spain, is also included.
Among the players called up are Adonis Humphreys, Kareem Edwards, Cohen Desouza, Steven Matthew, Javonte Daley, Lopez Adams, T-Shawn Lewis, Jaleyle Joseph, Takeem Martin, Danny Perez, Daniel Perez, Tajahron Davis, Craig Massiah Jr., Sadiq Phillip, Daleonte Phillip, Raheem Sawyer, Alexis Jackson, Jamine Charles, Seth Joseph, Keon Armstrong, Myles Miller, and Shamoi Tonge.
With a place in the next qualification phase on the line, Antigua and Barbuda will look to their combination of experienced local performers and college and professional talent abroad to make an impact when competition tips off in Georgetown next month.
