Organizers of the Antigua and Barbuda Queen of Carnival Competition have officially unveiled the seven delegates set to compete for the Queen of Carnival 2026 title under this year's theme, "Rhythm of a Queen: The Beat of Her Journey."
According to Antigua News Room, the announcement follows what organizers described as an intensive screening process to identify the contestants who will vie for one of Antigua Carnival's most prestigious crowns.
The seven delegates are Denesha Samuel, a graduate of Clare Hall Secondary School; Kenesha James, a graduate of Antigua State College who also pursued studies at the University of the West Indies; Queenela Williams, a graduate of Antigua State College; Christine Powell, a graduate of St. Anthony's Secondary School; Shaveesa Gasper, a graduate of the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts; Aaliyah Taylor, a graduate of Florida International University; and Zaine Frederick, a graduate of the University of the West Indies Five Islands Campus.
Organizers highlighted the diverse range of talents and personal interests the delegates bring to this year's competition. Samuel describes herself as an extrovert and is an identical twin, while James is an avid swimmer with a deep love for the ocean. Williams gravitates toward artistic projects and once crafted a top made entirely from live flowers.
Powell taught herself to sew, and Gasper is known for her affinity for beach life and coconuts. Taylor previously competed in the Junior Calypso Competition under the stage name "Singing Lily," while Frederick is a basketball enthusiast and supporter of NBA star LeBron James.
The Queen of Carnival Competition is a longstanding feature of Antigua Carnival, offering contestants a platform to showcase their intellect, creativity, talent and stage presence before a national audience.
Organizers confirmed that the delegates will participate in a series of activities and public appearances in the lead-up to the competition as they begin their journey toward the crown. Additional details on the competition schedule and related events are expected to be released in the coming days as preparations for Antigua Carnival 2026 continue.
