The Antigua and Barbuda Airport Authority (ABAA) has launched a public campaign to preserve the nation's aviation history through photographs, artwork and shared memories tied to air travel in the twin-island nation. According to Antigua.news, the initiative invites photographers, aviation enthusiasts, archivists, artists and members of the public to contribute to a permanent display at V.C. Bird International Airport.
The project, titled "Legacy Wall – Honouring Our Past, Inspiring the Future," will bring together historic aviation images, memorable travel experiences and artistic contributions that reflect the evolution of aviation in Antigua and Barbuda.
Among the memories the ABAA has highlighted is a well-known photograph of two gentlemen seated on a bench near the observation area outside Big Banana at the former terminal — an image many Antiguans and Barbudans associate with nostalgia and earlier travel experiences.
Customer Experience Manager Jan Walker-Brown said the initiative is designed to safeguard deeply personal moments connected to the nation's aviation journey. "It's these deeply personal moments, woven into our nation's aviation story, that the Legacy Wall initiative seeks to preserve and share with future generations," Walker-Brown said.
The project will also include a youth art component, providing young creatives with an opportunity to have their work displayed at the airport. Digital submissions can be emailed to the Airport Authority, while printed photographs may be delivered directly to the ABAA addressed to Jan Walker-Brown.
The Airport Authority stated that the Legacy Wall forms part of its broader commitment to preserving and celebrating Antigua and Barbuda's aviation heritage while inspiring generations to come.
