The University of the West Indies (UWI) Five Islands Campus and the Antigua and Barbuda Medicinal Cannabis Authority (MCA) have formalised a landmark partnership aimed at advancing research and education within the country's growing medicinal cannabis sector.

According to Antigua Observer, the two institutions signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on April 17th, 2026 — the opening day of what was described as a historic occasion for the industry in Antigua and Barbuda.

The agreement between UWI's Five Islands Campus and the MCA signals a formal commitment to collaboration, bringing together academic expertise and regulatory authority to support the development of medicinal cannabis in the twin-island nation.

The partnership is expected to create new opportunities for locally driven research and educational initiatives, positioning Antigua and Barbuda as a serious participant in the regional medicinal cannabis landscape.
