The Antigua & Barbuda Hotels and Tourism Association (ABHTA) has appointed Brian Murphy, Director of Operations at Carlisle Bay Antigua, as its incoming Chairman.
Murphy steps into the role following the resignation of Craig Marshall, who chaired the Association after his election in 2023 and subsequent re-election in 2025. Marshall is vacating the position to take on additional responsibilities outside of the ABHTA membership.
The Association expressed sincere appreciation for Marshall's leadership, noting that he brought a people-centric approach to the ABHTA's mission and served with passion, professionalism, and an unwavering commitment to advancing Antigua and Barbuda's tourism and hospitality industry.
Murphy's appointment follows a Board of Directors meeting convened on May 11, 2026, during which the Board activated Clause 29 of the Association's By-Laws. That clause states: "Should any directorship or executive position become vacant it can be filled at the discretion of the Board of Directors until the next Bi-annual general meeting or; ordinary or extra ordinary meeting is called for that purpose." Following deliberations, the Board unanimously confirmed Murphy's appointment.
The timing is significant. Murphy assumes the chairmanship as Antigua and Barbuda prepares to host the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA) Marketplace 2026, a premier regional tourism event that will bring together international buyers, sellers, tourism stakeholders, and industry leaders from around the globe — placing the twin-island nation firmly in the international spotlight.
The ABHTA noted that the leadership transition is designed to ensure continuity and strong representation for the tourism sector during this critical period of regional engagement and destination promotion.
Speaking on his appointment, Murphy said: "It is an honour to serve as Chairman of the ABHTA at such an important time for our tourism industry and our country. I look forward to fully contributing to the role and continuing the Association's collaborative relationships with the Government of Antigua and Barbuda, the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority, our membership, valued tourism partners, and key stakeholders including the Antigua and Barbuda Workers' Union. Together, we can continue strengthening and advancing our industry for the benefit of all."
The ABHTA reaffirmed its commitment to advocacy, partnership, and sustainable tourism growth, underscoring the importance of continued collaboration between the public and private sectors in maintaining Antigua and Barbuda's standing as a leading Caribbean tourism destination.
