The Antigua and Barbuda National Parks Authority hosted a successful Dockyard Day 2026 on Saturday, May 2nd, drawing a strong turnout of residents and visitors to Nelson's Dockyard National Park for a full day of cultural celebration, competitions, and family entertainment.

According to Antigua News Room, the annual event transformed the historic Dockyard into a lively hub of activity, featuring a wide range of competitive events, interactive experiences, and live entertainment. Patrons enjoyed music, local food and drinks, and activities tailored for all ages, including playground areas, toy vendors, and games for children.

Competitive events formed a major highlight of the day, drawing enthusiastic participation and strong crowd support throughout the proceedings.

A ceremonial centrepiece of the event was the Beating of the Retreat, performed by the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda, which added a formal cultural dimension to the day's festivities.

Parks Commissioner Mrs. Ann Marie Martin praised the level of community involvement. "Dockyard Day continues to be one of our most important community events, bringing together heritage, culture, and entertainment in a way that engages both residents and visitors," she said. "We are proud to see the level of participation and support this year, and we thank everyone who contributed to its success. We can't wait to welcome you again — bigger and better — next year!"

Beyond its cultural significance, Dockyard Day serves a broader economic purpose, supporting local vendors, performers, and small businesses. The event also aligns with the National Parks Authority's mandate to preserve and promote the cultural and historical importance of Nelson's Dockyard National Park.

The National Parks Authority extended its thanks to all participants, sponsors, volunteers, and patrons who contributed to the success of this year's event, and confirmed it looks forward to welcoming the public again in 2027.
