The Antigua and Barbuda College of Advanced Studies (ABCAS) has officially launched a four-day Electric Vehicle Battery Technologies Workshop, bringing together regional institutions and key national stakeholders to build local capacity in sustainable transport and energy. According to Antigua News Room, the opening ceremony was held at the ABCAS Muriel O'Mard Campus, marking the start of training sessions scheduled to run from May 5 to 8, 2026.

The workshop is a collaborative initiative involving The University of the West Indies, Mona and the Antigua and Barbuda National Training Agency (ABNTA). It draws participants from a broad cross-section of sectors, including regulators, fleet managers, energy and transport agencies, electric utilities, standards units and solid waste management authorities.

Opening remarks were delivered by Dr. E. Jonah Greene, President of ABCAS, and Ms. Latoya Reynolds, Principal of the Harrison Centre. Representatives from UWI Mona and ABNTA also addressed the gathering, underscoring the value of regional cooperation in advancing electric mobility and sustainable energy solutions.

Dwayne Edwards, Project Manager at the Department of Environment, also spoke at the ceremony, stressing the importance of strengthening national capacity within this rapidly evolving sector.

The initiative is financially supported by the German Federal Ministry for Environment, Climate Action, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMUKN) through its International Climate Initiative (IKI), in cooperation with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ).

Participants who successfully complete the workshop and pass daily assessments will be awarded a Certificate of Completion.
