A letter published by Antigua News Room questions the financial viability of the United Progressive Party's proposed sports complex, arguing that the AI-generated imagery depicting an arena, stadiums, and an Olympic pool masks a project that could cost billions of dollars — with no clear explanation of how it would be funded.

According to Antigua News Room, the letter raises pointed questions about whether such a project would require higher taxes, increased government borrowing, or cuts to existing public services such as affordable housing, road construction, water infrastructure, and other essential programmes.

The letter also challenges the UPP's organizational credibility, arguing that ongoing internal divisions within the party raise doubts about its capacity to manage a project of such scale and complexity. "If they can't run a party, how are they going to manage something this big?" the letter states.

By contrast, the letter's author draws a favourable comparison to the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party's announced Cricket West Indies High-Performance Campus at Coolidge. The writer describes the ABLP initiative as a phased project with defined objectives, including athlete training, job creation, sports tourism, and broader economic activity — along with an established funding mechanism.

The letter concludes by acknowledging that improved sports facilities are a widely shared aspiration, but calls for greater transparency about costs and stronger leadership in setting public priorities. "We all want better sports facilities," it reads. "But we also need honesty about what things cost — and leadership that knows how to set priorities."
