The Antigua and Barbuda Dental Association (ABDA) has elected a new Executive Board, introducing what it calls a "Legacy Board" model designed to strengthen the organisation's long-term sustainability and future leadership pipeline.

According to Antigua News Room, the newly elected board sees nearly one-third of its members under the age of 35, reflecting a deliberate effort to bring emerging dental professionals into leadership roles alongside more experienced practitioners.

The newly elected Executive Board includes Dr. Deborah Akande as Continuing President, Dr. Kronskie Dickenson-Foster as Vice President, Dr. Derek Marshall as Immediate Past President, Dr. Afi Bello-Williams as Community Liaison Officer, Dr. Jessica Fernandez as Assistant Secretary, Dr. Danny Ghazalea as Secretary, Dr. Kamal Moursy as Treasurer, Dr. Jahleel Allen as Early Career Dentist representative, and Dr. Adonis Mansoor as Social Media Chair.

The term "Legacy Board" was coined by Treasurer Dr. Kamal Moursy. The ABDA says the model is intended to blend the innovation of younger dentists with the institutional knowledge of experienced practitioners, preserving strategic direction while strengthening relationships with stakeholders, partners, and the wider community.

To support this vision, the Association has introduced constitutional updates that formalise two new positions on the board. The Early Career Dentist role ensures that the perspectives of younger members are represented at the leadership level, while the Community Liaison position is designed to guide outreach efforts and ensure the Association remains responsive to the broader public.

The ABDA's membership in the FDI World Dental Federation has also played a role in shaping this new direction. Through the partnership, the Association is aligning with international best practices, participating in global discussions, and engaging in data-driven initiatives.

Continuing President Dr. Deborah Akande highlighted the influence of the Federation's guidance on the board's renewed focus on developing younger professionals.

"We regularly receive guidance, participate in virtual meetings, and develop suggested international initiatives," said Dr. Akande. "This exposure has reinforced our commitment to nurturing the next generation of dental leaders. Our new Board is just the beginning."

The ABDA says it remains committed to advancing oral health, strengthening professional standards, and serving the people of Antigua and Barbuda.
