Antigua and Barbuda is positioned for a significant expansion in cruise tourism following high-level engagements at one of the industry's most influential global conferences.
According to Antigua.news, a delegation from the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority (ABTA), led by CEO Colin C. James, participated in Seatrade Cruise Global 2026, held from April 13 to 16 at the Miami Beach Convention Center. The team included senior tourism and port officials who conducted an intensive schedule of meetings with leading cruise operators from around the world.
Over the course of the conference, the ABTA delegation held 16 high-level meetings with major cruise partners, including Carnival Cruise Lines, Royal Caribbean Group, MSC Group, and Disney Cruise Line, among others. Those discussions have already produced tangible results for the destination.
MSC Group has confirmed 12 cruise calls to Antigua and Barbuda in 2026, with that figure expected to climb sharply to 41 in 2027. This includes visits from MSC's luxury brand, Explora Journeys. A marquee moment arrives on December 7, 2026, when the MSC World Europa makes its maiden revenue call to the island, bringing approximately 5,250 passengers.
Royal Caribbean Group is projecting 112 calls in the upcoming season, while Oceanus will maintain 52 annual calls, ensuring consistent year-round activity in the cruise sector. Taken together, these commitments are set to further solidify Antigua and Barbuda's standing as a key port of call in the Eastern Caribbean.
Beyond increased arrivals, several cruise lines have expressed strong interest in establishing homeporting operations in Antigua and Barbuda. Industry executives cited the country's efficient port infrastructure, strong airlift connectivity, and strategic geographic location as key competitive advantages.
Tourism officials attribute part of this momentum to high visitor satisfaction levels. Antigua and Barbuda earned an average visitor satisfaction score of 88 out of 100, with friendliness and safety identified as standout factors influencing cruise line decisions and repeat visits.
With projections of more than one million cruise passengers and over 400 annual calls expected in the next season, authorities say the destination is pursuing a value-driven growth strategy. Efforts include enhancing visitor experiences through the island's beaches, cultural heritage, and sustainable tourism initiatives.
Seatrade Cruise Global attracted more than 11,500 attendees and 650 exhibitors, providing a critical platform for Antigua and Barbuda to strengthen partnerships and align with emerging industry trends including sustainability, experiential travel, and artificial intelligence.
Officials say participation in the summit underscores the country's upward trajectory in the cruise sector, with growing cruise calls, expanding luxury offerings, and increasing confidence from global partners positioning Antigua and Barbuda as a premier Caribbean destination.
