The Antigua Port Authority has reinforced its standing as a regional training hub after hosting the newly appointed Dock Operations Manager for the Port of Bermuda in a week-long capacity building exchange, according to Antigua.news.
Sheridan Ming, who recently took up the Dock Operations Manager post in Bermuda, spoke with reporters upon completing the programme, describing the exchange as a foundational step in deepening cooperation between member states of the Port Management Association of the Caribbean (PMAC).
Ming credited the visit as an executive-level initiative between Bermuda Chief Executive Officer Randy Rochester and Antigua Port Authority Chief Executive Officer Darwin Telemaque, both of whom serve on the PMAC board.
He highlighted the local port's modern infrastructure, equipment, and operational design as elements Bermuda is looking to incorporate into its own upgrade programme. When asked about the most pressing operational challenge facing Caribbean ports, Ming identified the adoption of technology as essential to remaining both efficient and financially viable.
Assistant Terminal Manager Dale Phillip guided Ming through the week-long programme, which covered container arrivals and departures, engagement with shipping agents, and parcel handling operations. Ming praised Phillip, saying he demonstrated an expert command of port operations and effectively managed what he described as a demanding operation.
The visit marks one of the first occasions a Bermudian port official has travelled to Antigua under the PMAC capacity building framework. Ming indicated that the model could be expanded if policy discussions between member authorities continue to progress.
