The University of the West Indies (UWI) Five Islands Campus is broadening its footprint in Antigua and Barbuda, rolling out new academic programmes and deepening community engagement initiatives.
According to Antigua News Room, campus marketing officer Shavar Maloney outlined the institution's recent activities in an interview with state media, highlighting a clean-up campaign that removed thousands of pounds of waste and a 5K run that drew approximately 300 participants.
Maloney said the initiatives are designed to promote healthier lifestyles alongside academic and professional growth. "It's about being happy, being healthy and moving," he said.
The campus has also strengthened its ties with Five Islands Primary School, with Maloney describing the relationship as one of mentorship. Local businesses have similarly been drawn into the institution's growing network of community partnerships.
On the academic front, applications are currently open for programmes spanning technology, healthcare, business, criminology and education. Regional collaborations are also in development, including discussions with T.A. Marryshow Community College in Grenada to establish student pathways into the criminology programme.
The university is additionally preparing to launch a new law degree in partnership with the UWI Mona Campus. The programme will offer training in areas including media law, intellectual property and commercial law.
The campus has also resumed its "Walk-In Wednesdays" initiative, which provides prospective students with hands-on support for applications and the admissions process.
With summer orientation on the horizon and approximately 200 graduates expected this year, UWI Five Islands Campus continues to position itself as a central partner in both national and regional development.
