The Ministry of Sport is moving to strengthen sports development in Barbuda following a targeted visit to the island aimed at identifying gaps and expanding opportunities for young athletes.

During the Monday visit, ministry officials met with the Barbuda Council, coaches, and school principals to discuss strategies for revitalising sports and improving grassroots programmes. Central to the discussions was the need to build a more structured system to support athlete development, with a particular emphasis on creating clear pathways for local talent to compete at the regional and international levels.

As part of the initiative, the Antigua and Barbuda Football Association donated football gear to support training and development on the island.

The Ministry of Sport described the effort as part of a broader push to invest in Barbuda's sporting infrastructure and ensure that young people have access to meaningful opportunities both on and off the field.
