A new multipurpose sports complex has opened in Barbuda, the product of a collaboration between the Coco Point Trust and McChesney George Secondary School. The facility gives students and young people a dedicated space to develop their athletic abilities.
The Ministry of Sport announced the opening, stating that the complex is designed to support the growth of sports on the island by giving youth access to modern infrastructure where they can train, compete and build their skills.
"The Coco Point Trust, in collaboration with the principal and staff of McChesney George Secondary School, has successfully brought this Multipurpose Sports Complex to life," the ministry said.
Officials expressed hope that the facility will help position young Barbudan athletes to compete at the national, regional and international levels, while also encouraging broader participation in sport across the island.
The ministry took time to recognise the role of sponsors in making the project a reality, noting that their contributions extended well beyond bricks and mortar.
"Your investment is not just in infrastructure, but in the future of Barbuda's youth and the continued growth of sports development," the ministry's statement read.
The new complex forms part of continued efforts by the government to expand youth development opportunities through sport across Antigua and Barbuda.
