The Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre (SLBMC) is calling on former employees — both locally and overseas — to come forward and claim retroactive payments owed to them, including a final 9 percent salary increase and outstanding risk allowances covering periods between 2010 and 2024.

According to Antigua.news, the hospital issued a public notice on April 11, 2026, stating that the initiative is designed to ensure all eligible former staff receive benefits owed to them, particularly those who are no longer reachable through internal systems. The institution was formerly known as Mount St. John's Medical Centre.

The payments comprise two distinct components: a final retroactive payment tied to a 9 percent salary increase, and retroactive risk allowance payments covering earlier years.

Former employees who worked at the facility between January 1, 2019 and January 31, 2024 may be eligible for the outstanding balance of the 9 percent salary increase. SLBMC noted that any prior payments already made toward this amount will be deducted from the final total. To qualify, individuals must have been employed after January 1, 2019 and held a permanent position during that period.

Separately, former workers employed between January 1, 2010 and December 31, 2019 who did not receive a risk allowance during that time may also be eligible for retroactive payments under that category.

The hospital acknowledged that many former employees may now be living abroad or otherwise out of contact, and appealed to the public and media to help disseminate the information as widely as possible.

Eligible individuals are required to submit inquiries by email to [email protected], using the subject line: First Name Last Name – Retroactive Payment Inquiry (Risk Allowance/9% Increase).

SLBMC outlined separate processes for local and overseas claimants. Former employees still residing in Antigua will receive payment by cheque and must present valid government-issued identification upon collection. Those living abroad will be paid via bank transfer and must provide detailed banking information, including account numbers, SWIFT or routing codes, and correspondent bank details.

The hospital stated that payment timelines and collection arrangements will be communicated directly to claimants once their information has been verified.

SLBMC expressed gratitude to former employees for their service and thanked them for their patience as the payment process moves forward.
