The Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority brought the flavours of the twin-islands to Toronto on Tuesday evening, hosting more than 20 media representatives and content creators at an intimate culinary event dubbed A Taste of Antigua and Barbuda, held at EPOS Cafe in the city's upscale Yorkville neighbourhood.
According to Antigua News Room, guests were welcomed with cocktails and mocktails before sitting down to a gourmet five-course dinner curated by Antiguan Chef Giovanni Meyer, with each course drawing inspiration from the history and culinary heritage of Antigua and Barbuda.
Director of Tourism for Canada, Tameka Wharton, welcomed attendees and extended a personal invitation to experience the nation's cuisine firsthand at Antigua and Barbuda Culinary Month, scheduled for this May. Marketing and Communications Manager Kyle Christian guided guests through the evening, offering descriptions and the stories behind each dish.
Chef Giovanni brings an impressive culinary pedigree to the table. He trained at the Antigua and Barbuda Hospitality Training Institute (ABHTI) and the Culinary Institute of America (CIA), and honed his craft at Carlisle Bay Resort and Sheer Rocks in Antigua. His international experience includes time at Michelin-starred A Voce in New York, as well as Toronto's Constantine and Byblos restaurants.
Also present at the event was Canadian chef, television personality and author Devan Rajkumar, who is set to travel to Antigua for Culinary Month. He will collaborate with a local chef at the Finale Beach Party and Cookout at Tamarind Hills.
