Tyra Fenton stormed to the fastest qualifying time in the Under-17 girls' 200 metres preliminary round on Sunday morning at the CARIFTA Games. According to Antigua.news, Fenton clocked 23.79 seconds to win Section 2 and advance to the afternoon final as the top seed.
Fenton's performance placed her ahead of Trinidad and Tobago's Eden Chee-Wah, who ran 23.93 seconds in Section 3, and Bahamas' Keyezra Thomas, who posted 23.96 seconds in Section 1 to round out the top three qualifiers.
Jamaica's Shayon Smith qualified fourth overall with a time of 24.14 seconds, while Bahamas' Brion Ward finished fifth in 24.24 seconds. Trinidad and Tobago's Jael Peters secured sixth place in 24.31 seconds.
Jamaica's Danelia Clarke and British Virgin Islands' M'kenzii Crabbe advanced to the final as the two non-automatic qualifiers, clocking 24.31 and 24.34 seconds respectively.
