Antigua and Barbuda has recorded its strongest January tourism performance in history, with arrivals reaching new highs across the cruise, air, and yachting sectors, according to newly released data reported by Antigua News Room.
Cruise traffic led the surge, with 197,206 passengers visiting the twin-island nation — the highest January total ever recorded. The figure marks a significant jump from 173,266 cruise arrivals in January 2025 and dwarfs the 48,750 recorded in January 2022.
Air arrivals also reached a new peak, with 36,052 visitors arriving by flight, continuing a steady upward trend in stay-over tourism from the 34,365 recorded the previous year.
The yachting sector contributed further to the milestone month, registering 3,633 arrivals — another January record — reinforcing Antigua and Barbuda's standing as one of the Caribbean's premier sailing destinations.
Tourism Minister Charles Fernandez attributed the strong performance to coordinated efforts across the industry, including expanded airlift capacity, strengthened cruise partnerships, and targeted marketing campaigns in key source markets.
The figures point to continued diversification within the sector. Cruise arrivals drive overall visitor volume, while growth in air arrivals signals an increase in higher-value, longer-staying visitors. Yachting continues to maintain its distinct niche contribution to the overall tourism economy.
Officials say the record-setting start to the year has generated a positive outlook for 2026, with the focus now on sustaining momentum and ensuring that growth translates into broader economic benefits for communities across the country.
