Antigua and Barbuda is hosting the 20th edition of the Gillian Brazier Basketball Tournament this week, welcoming regional and international teams from Canada and Barbados to the twin-island nation.

According to Antigua News Room, the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority is supporting the tournament, which officially opened this week and is scheduled to run through April 4.

Prior to the opening ceremony, Under-16 female players from Canada joined tournament organisers on a visit to Cedar Grove Primary School. The visit centred on engaging with students, building enthusiasm for the games, and encouraging young people to participate in sport.

Organisers note that the tournament, now celebrating its 20th year, continues to draw overseas competitors while creating meaningful opportunities for local players to compete and develop their skills on an international stage.

The Tourism Authority highlighted that events such as the Gillian Brazier Tournament serve a dual purpose — fostering youth engagement in sport while advancing Antigua and Barbuda's growing emphasis on sports tourism as a pillar of the country's broader tourism strategy.
