Fourteen young steel pan musicians took centre stage at the National Junior Solo Competition on March 15, delivering an evening of polished performances at The UWI Global Campus. According to Antigua.news, the event, hosted by the Department of Culture, drew strong praise for its high standard of artistry and its celebration of Antigua and Barbuda's enduring musical heritage.
Competitors across two age categories captivated the audience with technical skill, creativity, and a stage presence that belied their years. Organisers described the competition as a resounding success, commending the consistently high level of performance maintained throughout the night.
In the 5–13 age category, Kaiya Casimir and Keiyanna Davis earned joint first place after delivering standout performances that secured top marks from the judges. Tianna Spencer rounded out the category in third place.
The 14–21 division saw Keshawn Benjamin claim first place, with Imani Quinland finishing in second. Zari Roach took third place honours, while Calique Thomas placed fourth.
Officials from the Department of Culture praised all participants for their dedication to the art form, highlighting the competition's role in nurturing young talent and preserving the legacy of steel pan music in the twin-island nation.
Several corporate partners supported the event, including Glow Up, Square Deal Security Solutions, Firehouse Grill, and Books by Barbara. Special recognition was extended to cultural contributors Aubrey "Lacu" Samuel and Curtis "CC" Cochrane for their continued mentorship and support of young musicians.
