The Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA) is warning residents that a disconnection notice circulating widely on social media and messaging platforms is false and malicious. According to Antigua.news, the authority issued a formal statement on Saturday condemning the document and urging the public not to treat it as legitimate.
The fraudulent notice falsely claims that specific communities across Antigua and Barbuda are scheduled to face utility disconnections. APUA confirmed the document did not originate from the authority.
Officials clarified that while APUA did issue its standard monthly reminder to customers whose accounts are 30 days or more overdue, that notice did not identify or target any particular communities. The authority stressed that the areas named in the circulating message do not appear on any official disconnection listing.
APUA condemned both the creation and distribution of the fake notice, warning that such misinformation risks causing unnecessary alarm among customers across the country.
The authority called on anyone responsible for producing or sharing the misleading document to stop immediately.
Residents are being urged to rely solely on APUA's official communication channels for accurate and verified information, including the authority's website, its verified social media pages, and its official WhatsApp channel.
APUA reaffirmed its commitment to transparent public communication and thanked customers for their continued patience and cooperation.
