The West Indies Oil Company Limited (WIOC) is urging residents across Antigua and Barbuda not to panic buy liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders, following a sudden spike in purchases that has fuelled widespread concern about a potential shortage.
WIOC confirmed it has observed a significant increase in LPG cylinder purchases across the island in recent days. The company attributed the surge to unnecessary public concern and speculation, and moved swiftly to reassure customers that supplies remain stable.
There is no shortage of LPG, the company stressed. WIOC says it holds sufficient supplies and cylinder availability to meet normal consumer demand, and there is no need for members of the public to stockpile at this time.
The company also moved to quash circulating rumours of an impending price hike. WIOC clarified that no discussions have taken place with the Government of Antigua and Barbuda regarding any increase in the price of LPG cylinders.
Officials say the company continues to monitor the situation closely and has taken steps to ensure the continued reliable supply and distribution of LPG throughout the twin-island nation.
