The PMS Serenaders of Princess Margaret School have been named School Steel Band of the Year at the National Music Awards, held on Tuesday night. According to Antigua News Room, the group claimed the top prize ahead of Irene B. Williams Secondary School, the other finalist in the category recognizing outstanding school steel bands across Antigua and Barbuda.
Accepting the award, a representative of the band paid tribute to the ensemble's collective effort and dedication.
"Okay, good evening everyone. I know you saw a lot of people on the stage just now, but I could not take the opportunity by myself because they worked extremely hard," the representative said.
The band's representative also outlined ambitions that extend beyond the school setting, expressing a desire to grow the group's presence within the wider community.
"We hope to continue pushing music, not just school steel band, but we want to make sure that we operate like a community band year-round as well," the representative said.
The School Steel Band of the Year award was among the honours presented at the National Music Awards ceremony, which recognizes artists, musicians, and cultural contributors across Antigua and Barbuda's music industry.
