State broadcaster ABS Television will relocate to new facilities at the Caribbean Cinemas complex on Friars Hill Road within the next two months, government officials announced at Thursday's post-Cabinet media briefing.
Director General of Communications in the Office of the Prime Minister, Maurice Merchant, confirmed the move is already underway. A contract for the new location has been signed, and the Department of Works is set to begin assessing the new facilities this week.
"The Department of Works will move immediately later this week, being tomorrow and the weekend, to start its overview and review of the facilities — the new facilities for ABS within the Caribbean Cinemas building on the Friars Hill Road," Merchant said.
The relocation is intended to address ongoing issues with the broadcaster's current building and provide ABS with a more suitable operating environment. While the transition is prepared, the Department of Public Works will carry out interim adjustments at the existing ABS facilities.
Merchant expressed confidence in the timeline. "Anticipation within two months or less that you should be within your new facilities," he said.
