A government-owned concrete block plant under development in North Sound is expected to reduce construction costs and accelerate the delivery of affordable housing across Antigua and Barbuda, according to Antigua News Room.
Rawdon Turner, Chairman of the National Housing Development and Urban Renewal Company, confirmed that officials conducted a site inspection this week as the facility edges closer to becoming operational.
The plant, which will be government-owned, is designed to bring down the cost of building materials — a key factor in making housing more accessible to residents. By producing concrete blocks locally under government oversight, authorities aim to ease financial barriers that have long constrained affordable housing development on the islands.
The site inspection marks a significant step forward in the project's progress, signalling that planning is advancing beyond the conceptual stage. No timeline for the plant's completion was immediately available.
