Prime Minister Gaston Browne has expressed optimism that Antigua and Barbuda may recover US$60 million owed through the long-standing CLICO insurance collapse, following what he described as cordial discussions with Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, according to Antigua.news.

The talks between the two leaders raised hopes that a resolution to the long-delayed repayment may be within reach. PM Browne indicated that the tone of the discussions was positive, lending confidence that the matter could move forward constructively.

The CLICO financial crisis, which originated with the collapse of the CL Financial conglomerate, left significant financial losses across the Caribbean region. Antigua and Barbuda has been among the countries seeking restitution for funds lost in the fallout.

A repayment of US$60 million would represent a significant financial recovery for the country and could have meaningful implications for the government's fiscal position.
