Parliamentary Representative for St. George, Michael Freeland, has expressed deep sorrow following a fatal drive-by shooting in Potters Village that killed 29-year-old Leandro "Leo" Hubbard and left an 18-year-old man in critical condition. According to Antigua.news, the shooting occurred shortly before 11 a.m. on Sunday along a road opposite Potters Primary School.
In a statement issued the same day, Freeland described the incident as a heartbreaking tragedy for the constituency and extended condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased.
"Today, my heart is heavy as I learned of the tragic shooting in Potters Village that claimed the life of one of our young men, Leandro 'Leo' Hubbard, and left another young man fighting for his life in hospital," Freeland said.
The MP also offered prayers for the recovery of the injured teenager, urging the public to keep the young man and his family in their thoughts during this difficult period.
Freeland characterised the shooting as a stark reminder of the devastating impact of gun violence, asserting that no family should endure such loss and no community should live in fear.
"This senseless act has shaken all of us and serves as a painful reminder that we must continue working together to build safer, stronger communities where our young people can live with hope rather than fear," he said.
The MP expressed confidence that the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda would conduct a thorough investigation and appealed to anyone with relevant information to come forward and assist investigators.
Freeland also reassured residents of Potters Village and the broader St. George constituency of his full support as the community processes the tragedy. "I stand with the people of Potters and the wider St. George community during this difficult time. Let us reject violence, support one another, and continue working together for peace, unity and a brighter future for our constituency," his statement concluded.
Hubbard died at the scene, while the second victim remains hospitalised in critical condition. Police continue to investigate the daylight attack.
