A stevedore has died following an industrial accident during cargo operations at Woodbridge Bay Port in Dominica, according to Antigua News Room.
Police identified the victim as 47-year-old Otis Francis of Tarish Pit. The incident occurred at approximately 12:30 a.m. on Friday while Francis was working aboard the cargo vessel Tropic Opal at the Fond Colé port.
The Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force reported that Francis suffered fatal injuries after being struck by a shipping container. An on-call doctor pronounced him dead at the scene.
The Crime Scene Unit examined the area as investigators began working to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident. Authorities subsequently transported Francis' body to Lyndhurst Funeral Home, where a post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted.
In a formal statement, police extended condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues, describing the incident as a tragic loss.
