The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is tracking a tropical wave in the eastern Atlantic Ocean, though forecasters say significant development remains unlikely, according to Antigua News Room.

As of 8 a.m. Friday, a broad area of low pressure had formed approximately 175 miles southeast of the Cabo Verde Islands. The system was generating limited and disorganized showers and thunderstorms while tracking west-northwest at speeds between 10 and 15 mph.

The NHC indicated that environmental conditions are expected to become increasingly unfavorable for further development of the system.

Forecasters place the chance of the disturbance developing into a tropical cyclone at just 10% over both the next 48 hours and the next seven days.

As reported by Antigua News Room, meteorologists are also keeping a close watch on a separate disturbance in the northeastern Gulf of America, which similarly carries a low probability of development.
