A 40-year-old Mount Joy man is in police custody following a Monday evening shooting incident that left a 66-year-old Villa resident hospitalised with a gunshot wound.

According to Antigua Observer, the suspect walked into the Parham Police Station at approximately 6:45 p.m. and voluntarily reported his involvement in the shooting. Officers took him into custody and seized a firearm at the scene.

The injured man was transported to the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre with a single gunshot wound to the right side of his chest. He is reported to be in stable condition and is currently receiving medical treatment.

Authorities are holding the suspect on suspicion of shooting with intent as investigators work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
