The Cabinet has rejected a proposal that would have imposed a mandatory 24-hour delay on the broadcast and streaming of official Antigua Carnival 2026 events, clearing the way for media houses to provide live coverage throughout the festival.
According to Antigua.news, the decision follows concerns that broadcasters and digital media platforms would have been barred from airing Carnival events in real time under the proposed restrictions.
Cabinet determined that live coverage plays a vital role in showcasing Antigua Carnival to a global audience, boosting the country's tourism product, increasing the value of sponsorship opportunities, and allowing Antiguans and Barbudans living abroad to experience the celebrations as they happen.
The Government has directed that all official Antigua Carnival events be made available for live broadcast and streaming by accredited media, with no mandatory delay imposed.
The decision forms part of the Government's broader commitment to maximising the international exposure of Antigua Carnival while ensuring the festival remains accessible to audiences both at home and across the diaspora.
The wide-ranging Cabinet meeting concluded with a devotional reflection encouraging national leaders to seek wisdom, discernment, and God's guidance as they carry out their responsibilities in public service.
