Heavy-duty truckers employed by the Ministry of Works have returned to their duties following a brief but disruptive protest Tuesday morning over outstanding payments.
Workers temporarily blocked access to the ministry's compound on Denry Lane, using government vehicles to obstruct the entrance as they sought answers regarding unresolved financial concerns. The standoff drew attention to underlying grievances within the ministry's workforce.
The Ministry of Works announced that management responded swiftly, engaging employees in constructive discussions and providing assurances that the matters raised are already being actively addressed. Following the meeting, workers resumed normal operations.
The ministry expressed appreciation to its employees for their continued dedication and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting its workforce. "The Ministry reiterates its sincere appreciation for its hardworking team members and its continued commitment to fully supporting them as we advance our mission to transform infrastructure in Antigua and Barbuda," the ministry's statement read.
Normal operations at the Denry Lane compound have since resumed.
