Residents across more than a dozen Antiguan communities are being warned to expect reduced water availability after the Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA) announced that surface water levels at the Bendals Valley source have dropped below the threshold required for extraction. According to Antigua.news, the utility is moving to restructure its water distribution in response to the shortfall.
APUA's Water Business Unit confirmed that communities normally served by the Bendals Water Treatment Plant will now receive water from the Ffryes Reverse Osmosis Plant, supplemented by available well sources within the Bendals Valley, as the authority works to maintain service continuity.
The communities directly affected include Bendals Village, Bendals Road, Bathlodge, Cashew Hill, Whenner Road, Brownes Avenue, Martins Village, DeSouza Road, Tindale Road, Golden Grove Eastern Section and Golden Grove Extension.
The Ffryes Reverse Osmosis Plant already supplies Big Creek, Ebenezer, Jennings, Bolans, Crab Hill, Johnsons Point, Urlings, Cades Bay and Old Road. With the plant now serving an expanded customer base, APUA cautioned that residents across both service areas may experience lower water pressure, shorter windows of water availability and longer gaps between scheduled distribution days.
To manage the constrained supply, the authority will rotate water distribution among the affected communities. Customers are encouraged to store water responsibly whenever service is available and to maintain water conservation practices.
APUA's Water Business Unit thanked customers for their patience as it continues to manage the island's water resources during the reduced extraction period.
